The latest Scorpio zine is up just in time - as I write, the Sun is heading quickly into Sagittarius! So the next month will highlight strategy and belief systems in companies as well as everywhere else. Mercury is about to go backwards on November 25th until December the 15th so beware of communication snafus again during thsi period.

This month I have suggested a couple of mid-term scenarios for the EU. After all, futurists are always giving predictions without the aid of astrology - more on that too. So I have taken a leaf out of their book.

We do have choice as to what happens but I fear the worst when I look at the EU history.

Evolution and Emergence

I always like to read what Bruce Lipton, the author of 'Spontaneous Evolution' is up to. This month his newsletter is in the form of a video which I really liked. It's about 11 minutes long and I think worth taking the time to watch, as it providers a positive message in these troubled times. And an explanation of what astrologers would associate with the current aspects between two planets - Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries. As I have written of many times, these two planets are in the process of squaring up next year and on 6 other occasions until 2015. We are just at the beginning of a huge transformation.

Bruce is using the Occupy movement as an example. In astrology Uranus would represent the people who are rebelling. They want change - Uranus - they are the igniters - Aries. They don't know what the outcome will be, but they are ready to fight for change. Pluto in Capricorn represents corporate power in this case, and in general anyone who has power and authority. The Police in New York as they move the protestors on today. The people in charge at St Paul's cathedral in London, who have chnaged their tune through the actions of the protestors. Things are changing. Corrupt power will be taken down. As Bruce says - who knows what is emerging? But Uranus in Aries makes sure that change starts.

A story in the newspaper this morning stood out for me too. It spoke of a group of Nuns buying shares in corporations so they can put their suggestions for positive changes on the agendas of large corporations. And the directors are taking notice and meeting them! Change can be done that way too, and from quarters where you might least expect it...

Be interesting and synergistic

I love listening to business daily on BBC World service. Today Cindy Gallop was talking about how to rebrand yourself and how to gain a strong personal brand presence. She knows what she is talking about having years of experience in the field. I have been suggesting that astrologers need to manage the online image of astrology and not least themselves. I agree that we now have the ability to counteract, or at least put forward our views on of the amount of rubbish there is online about astrology - not to mention ourselves.

She recommends the use of Facebook to help you do business and to know what's going on. Be interesting and synergistic things happen. And be honest on your C.V. - it's too easy now to see who you really are!

Her talk is on the BBC site - her part starts at around 8 minutes in - until about 12:30. So a short but very interesting piece. One thing she says is needed is something I often help with. How to get your head around what you image and C.V. should be. Your horoscope is a great tool for this. If you are setting up a website for your business and haven't considered using a horoscope why not give it a try. I still offer a free half hour!

It's so nice when a plan comes together. I have been working together with Karin from Datbureau (design company) to create a new logo and image for one of my clients - de WerkvloerCentraal. I used the horoscope and together with Karin's designer skills and input from the two directors we launced the new logo this week. The next stage will be to use the horoscope to help create a fitting website. It's great fun and it's even better because I really love what de WerkvloerCentraal (Work Floor Central) is attempting - to provide much better care for the elderly - starting by giving the people on the workfloor more influence. The strategy is based on solving problems that were highlighted in Anne-Mei The's book "In Death's Waiting Room". ( In de Wachtkaner van de Dood".)
Having just heard the BBC news about the problems in the UK with homes for the elderly, it's nice to feel that I am part of something that is ahead of other countries.
Everyone has been amazed at the input I could give from the horoscope and how easily the new logo was accepted. It gives a framework for discussion which is really helpful for focussing on the image of the company instead of everyone's taste! And speaking of which the cake was delicious!

This was the question I posed last night at a seminar that Blanca Vergara and I did at the Lloyd Hotel.

"More than doers we are deciders" was the quote I started with. I couldn't find who said it, but whoever it was I agree. We are at a very big decision point in the world and what we decide does make a difference.

We had a lot of fun and great discussions, cocktails and dinner plus we tried out the beds during the tour of the wonderful Lloyd building.

I left the delegates with these suggestions of good things to do, particularly between now and in 2015...when these two planets are in contact with each other.

Seasonal biology definitely not astrology - really?

In the past week or so I have come across references to the same data - ostensibly from the figures of the Office of National Statistics in the UK. The articles in both English and Dutch publications (often under women's pages) refer to the idea that birth month produces various careers. Apart from sloppy reporting where there are links given to the Office of Statistics with the original data nowhere to be seen, the only person questioned about this data seems to have been one Professor Russell Foster from Oxford University. Helpful links given here to the home page of Oxford University! They quote Prof Foster, a circadian neuroscientist, as saying "The effects are small but very, very clear. I am not going to give voice to astrology - but we are not immune to seasonal interference."

God forbid astrology might have something to say.

He of course says it's all about sunlight. He would - that's his speciality and who knows he may be right but I would need to see a scientific study done in north and south hemispheres to be convinced. But back to the reports.
Firstly everyone assumes that a birth month is the same as a star sign. Secondly it would be nice if astrologers were asked for a comment and especially if the Bureau of Statistics would answer their mail so we could comment on the actual report. I am trying to get the original data - anyone got it?

Some of the details quoted were "According to researchers, a child born in December is more likely to become a dentist while someone whose birthday falls in January is more likely to become a debt collector. Those babies born in February are likely to turn their hand to painting, while March babies go on to become pilots."

Well all I can say is that they should try it with proper star signs. December January covers Capricorn - dentists and debt-collectors fit perfectly - I bet they were at the end of December beginning of January. And fancy Pisces being painters! And end of March being pilots - could that be the daring Aries perhaps?

Wow this seasonal biology is really something - perhaps it needs promoting.
But it should be pointed out, says Douglas McMahon, from Vanderbilt University in a publication nature Neuroscience: "It's important to emphasize that, even though this (a report on seasonal disorders) sounds a bit like astrology, it is not: it's seasonal biology!"
Ok good glad that's clear.

My heart goes out to Norway

What a terrible experience it must have been yesterday in Utoeya Island and in Oslo with the bombing. At present it seems to be the work of one person, which may or may not be more comforting than a bigger organisation claiming the deed. Being able to keep tabs on a single person has always proved to be impossible in these devastating cases. The sad fact is many people have died, (91 at the time of writing) all of them far too young.

Although with events like this, I, like many astrologers, look at the charts to try to make sense of them, astrology doesn't really provide much solace. It shows the themes of the moments and bringing these themes to light might go some way to an explanation of the drives of the murderer.

The island case appears to be another example of an aspect in the heavens coming into sharp focus. The same aspect that is not yet exact, and won't be until next year. I'm afraid we might still be in the warm up stage, but perhaps there is hope that this type of event might make us more alert as to how this energy needs to be transformed.

I haven't seen an exact time for the shootings. It seems to be about 2 hours after the bombing which was took place at 15:26 Oslo time.

The bombing chart shows the planet Neptune right at the bottom of the chart. Underfoot so to speak. Neptune creates chaos and loss, in this case at the fundament of the Norwegian capital. Great grief. But Neptune can also act as a smoke screen of deception which seems to have been the case for the murderer. It could suggest that the motivation was one of being 'addicted ' to very strong ideals, (in this case extreme nationalism). It suggests someone who will make sacrifices. Neptune is next to Chiron which is about a deep, some would say karmic, wounding. There may be an old wound being opened here so that it can be healed.

But certainly a great wound has been caused.

I can't find an exact time for the shootings but assuming that is was about 2 hours later than the bombing, one of the planets in the aspect mentioned above, Uranus, has reached the same spot. The planet of shocks is now underfoot and is in an aspect with the planet of death, Pluto. Uranus together with Pluto can create terrible and shocking violence, as in this case. Uranus underfoot is like an earthquake. Norway must be shaken to the core. The sign that resonates with Pluto, Scorpio, was on the horizon for both of these charts. The image is one of transformation and already the media are pronouncing deep changes - Norway will never be the same. It is being called Norway's 9/11 and I think looking at the chart that is a good description.

Uranus is working together with Ceres, who I think will continue to use Uranus as a wake up call (as she gets closer to him) for what we are doing to the environment. Uranus is the planet of adolescence and Ceres represents an older wise woman so what wonders what these teenagers were discussing. It was a Summer camp run by the ruling Labour Party. Maybe this will give their topics a stage. A wake up call to create a better environment for the future.

It is also interesting in connection with Ceres, who I think has a theme of women's emancipation, that the Commissioner of the Norwegian police is a woman, Ingelin Christine Killengreen, and she is also a Scorpio. Norway has a very good record for equality of the sexes. Perhaps this a relevant theme that will be highlighted too. Looking at the charts, I suspect Ingelin Killegreen might have an important role to play as this terrible case unfolds.

The Prime Minister described the sudden (Uranus) transformation (Pluto) in this case as one of "from a pardise to a hell". His shock is great. He was scheduled to speak at the gathering.

The suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, has been arrested and he is very Uranian. He is very intelligent, an IT consultant, very active on social media and very right wing. He is against immigration especially of Muslims. This is an indication of someone who knows he is right and nothing will change his views. Uranus this way can produce a very cold and cruel individual. He is (if web info is correct) an Aquarian, confirming these qualities, albeit in a negative way.

Pluto and Uranus can indeed transform. I hope we can use this growing energy to transform on the same scale but in a powerful, innovative and positive way.

Do Not Enter the Netherlands

This week this advertisement appeared in the NY Times. It is a response to proposed government cuts on subsidies for Culture in the Netherlands. It had the desired effect... much outrage. On top of this at the moment and all at the same time, three major museums are fully or partly closed in Amsterdam.

As an astrologer I can't keep my hands off a chart when something like this happens. "What is going on in the Netherlands chart", I asked myself - always nice to have someone who might provide some sort of answer.

I thought Venus - the boss of culture and art and all things beautiful - might be the culprit and indeed she is being put on the rack by Saturn - that hard task master who wants us to be responsible and take the economic mess (also Venus) seriously.
And he's not finished with her yet.

In The Dutch chart, Saturn's first assignation with her was on November the 26th last year. Saturn is in Libra at the moment so he has his sights on cleaning up general Libra topics globally, which include art and culture and also relationships and negotiations. Not to mention money. He likes some structure and he likes contracts or agreements in relationships. And responsible spending. It's all about taking repsonsibility for these things.

For the Netherlands though, he is also in direct opposition to Venus, the planet, which apart from art and culture, also rules norms and values and what we enjoy. So this period is of course about more than just Culture with a big C.

Venus in the Dutch chart is in Aries, so there is a love of pioneering, challenging, competing, haggling, and going for it when it comes to money. For a small country there has been a good deal of daring exploration in the past, those brave adventurers coming back as conquering heroes. There is also a love of doing things on the spur of the moment, a kind of bravery but perhaps not always with consideration of the possible consequences. Saturn is questioning that. Saturn restricts to give you time to think.

So let's look at the dates to see if we can get some insight and advice. The first date of November 26th last year, resulted in tickets for concerts for 2011 going on sale early, due to the fact that Government had introduced sales tax on these tickets. The early sales avoided this cost with the resulting loss to Government coffers.

Saturn contacts Venus three times, so this whole period describes a process with high points. The 26th of November was the first and the second was 30th March this year. What was announced then, was that Government would play a smaller role in Culture. (Article in Dutch) For the first time there was a group set up known as the "Table of Six", which represents the whole art world. They reached agreement at this date to present a proposal to Government with a new vision for financing Culture in the Netherlands, which involves a better balance between the market and other financiers. They are against the radical cuts which are proposed.

There is one more meeting to go between Saturn and Venus on 22nd August this year. The struggles continue. Yesterday in the Hague there were more clashes during another demonstration. Artists are accusing the police of being much too heavy handed and agressive - out of proportion with the events.

So what should Holland be doing and learning?

The second date gives some hope for a good outcome after August. What is needed is a structure and some new clear rules. Artists must take responsibility for the money they receive - so they need to make business-like proposals when Saturn is around. Delivery of Culture should fit in with market needs but also art lovers need to be prepared to pay a reasonable fee for what they love. For example a lot of music is downloaded for free which doesn't really show appreciation for artists. Everyone has to live within their means at the moment. There is a restructuring necessary. For a small country there were a lot of subsidies which probably could be better focussed.

On a personal level we need to take the things we love seriously. Whether that is art or people let's take responsibility and pay for these things with our money and/or our time.

Killer Salads

I was just reading a blog post (in Dutch) by my friend and colleague Liz Hathway. She analysed the chart of the time that the first E-Coli victim in Germany reported sick. Knowing Liz she has done her research into how that time was found! I agree with her - it is a good example of the fight between those two heavy Gods - Uranus and Pluto - lining up for their first real bout. Putting the two archetypes together we get sudden deaths, strange killings, but also, I fear, death through technology. So it was with some trepidation that I read an article about how this strain of E-Coli may have been man-made. The Natural News site is sometimes a bit consipracy theory for me but interesting nonetheless. There is also an interesting article on there about E-coli and antibiotics in meat.

Farmers are furious and I look at the pictures of what is being thrown away, because of the panic and confusion, in horror. What an incredible waste, surely there is a way of testing in this day and age that can find a bacteria on vegetables that means that they don't have to be dumped.

But of course we still have Pluto not working optimally in Capricorn so instead of someone in the lead taking overall responsibility, the main focus is on finding out who is to blame - with up until now dire consequences- particularly for Spain. And of course who pays. Did you notice, being a bit conspiracy theory myself, that organic farming was also a target?

Anyway back to the chart, as I also like to see what might be the lesson here.

I noticed in the chart that there was a connection between the Moon and several other planets. She is opposite Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury with Mars not too far away. It is often instructive to see what the result of the event is and the fact is that it has affected mostly women. The Moon and Venus are female planets but they oppose each other. Jupiter is about philosophy or our beliefs and Mercury is about communication but also our opinions. With the Moon being opposite Venus etc. I wondered if the philosophy of 'women who eat salads' and the opinions they hold about this - read keeping slim and healthy - is actually in opposition to what they actually need to nurture them (the Moon). Mars may be challenging this belief.

It certainly must raise the question of what we eat and how we get our food. As a society is our food actually nurturing us or are we eating what we are told is good for us. I'm a big fan of eating what you enjoy- life's too short! I do think food shouldn't be messed about with though.

The Uranus - Pluto fight can bring us a brave new world of technology and I haven't anything against science. But I think we may have lost the plot here and are still looking in the wrong place. The wide use of antibiotics and general messing about with nature needs to be addressed. We need to take responsibility for trying to be in control of everything edible (not to mention nuclear power - but that's another story), having failed miserably. There are good things happening - yesterday a possible breakthrough at Cern and a possible new Cancer drug and I love this video from TED talks about bacteria.

But in the meantime, I'm growing my own! At least I know where they've been - although the DNA in the seeds is a bit of a worry!

C&A and the Brenninkmeijers

A few years ago when I was doing my dissertation for my MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology, I was lucky enough to get an interview with one of the managers at Athos, the managing company of C&A in Amsterdam. This week in the press, there was an article about them, confirming what I had discovered then.

They had just become more 'open' as a company, but they were the only one of my research companies for which I couldn't get a start date and the only one who wouldn't give me permission to use any of what I found through interviews, in any of my publications. 'Open' apparently has different meanings! The article also refers to this fact. They play everything very close to their chest. (Picture of logo is from C&A site).

I was researching how my 'Company Clock' model (one that shows organisational development phases), worked for C&A. Because I had followed the phases then, I was interested to see what they were up to now. The article referred to the fact that they are structured so that they don't have to publicise any of their figures. I discovered that this structure was set up in the crisis point of the 8th phase - related to Scorpio - the mid-life crisis phase for people and companies. They made sure in this phase, to do lots of Scorpio things, keep control, maintain privacy and totally reorganise.

According to the Volkskrant, C&A is 150 this year, a real achievement for a family company. That's not strictly true as according to their own website they were founded in 1841. However the opening of their first branch was 20 years later. Today, the Brenninkmeijers are one of the richest families in Holland. Now that they are 170 (I use the founding date), they are in the 4th phase again, so I was delighted with the last sentence in the Volkskrant Article of 23 May 2011. "En de volgende generatie is alweer bijna aan bod." It's almost the next generation's (of Brenninkmeijers) turn. My model seems to be working even for them!

What I've discovered in this Cancer phase in many companies, is that there are often changes in management. Major new players in the boardroom. For people, this phase,(which happens first between 18 and 24, with a crisis point between 21-22), is when we make our own nest. We leave home and create a new 'family'. Companies seem to do this too. It would be interesting to know what happened in C&A the first and second times round in this phase. These were between 1859-1865 and 1931-1937. I tried to discover this during my research, but the only thing I could really ascertain was that in 1861 the 2nd store in its history was started and perhaps more interestingly looking at the economy now, in 1934 a differentiation in the range was made so that high-class people, now with less money, would feel at home. Also because of their non-Jewish policy, permission was given for a store to open in Leipzig in 1937.

It seems some themes never change!

We can use the age of 150 years for the stores, as the 170 applies to the whole company. This means that the stores have their own life-cycle which is even more interesting as they are entering the 2nd phase again, the one concerning Taurus, where core products need to be redefined and finances need to be put in order. It's all about money! Interesting then, that in the last two rounds of this phase, C&A created the then new slogan “C&A is toch voordeliger” in 1924 which was used for a long time, (difficult to translate but something like C&A is actually cheaper). Today the English version is "Fashion You Choose". Are we in for a new positioning and slogan in the coming 6 years? And in 1995 H&M started heavy competing with C&A. My advice for C&A is to get ready to go back to basics and expect competition.

The move to a new dream

I have written a few times about the fact that Neptune is in the middle of going backwards and forwards changing sign from Aquarius to Pisces. I talked about us developing a new dream. Here's what I wrote in the Capricorn 2011 zine.
"Although we will continue to experience the power of all this technology and experience sudden new innovations and breakthroughs, Neptune changing sign provides us with a new addiction, a new dream, a new something where we go over the top. The addiction to technology will slow down, as will the number of new techno-products just for the sake of it."

I think Seth Godin's blog today expresses this change well: "But one reason for our ennui as technology hounds is that we’re missing the feeling that was delivered to us daily for a decade or more. I was just checking my stats and see that I have a lot of followers in places other than here - Great! But I'm afraid this post is about an evening in Amsterdam. Now I agree it would be worth coming from Brazil or New Zealand just to stay at the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam and come to our dinner, but I know it's not likely.

Neptune enters Pisces - a new dream but first chaos

This is what I wrote at the beginning of the year in my Capricorn E-zine.

"... Neptune changes sign as well. Going for a trial run in Pisces between April until August 2011,he enters fully into Pisces in 2012. He has been in Aquarius since 1998 which has resulted in there being no borders and boundaries when it comes to technology. New things appear, it feels like daily, in the form of new phones, iPads or computer gadgets and communication abilities. Scientific advancement has also seemed endless. That will start to change.

Although we will continue to experience the power of all this technology and experience sudden new innovations and breakthroughs, Neptune changing sign provides us with a new addiction, a new dream, a new something where we go over the top. The addiction to technology will slow down, as will the number of new techno-products just for the sake of it. In Pisces, Neptune is at home in his own sign. So we get limitless dreaming. Or we become addicted to our addictions! Pisces rules a strange bunch of things: hospitals and prisons, drugs, alcohol, music and the arts. The chance here is for very creative things to happen in all these areas. But there is also the chance of chaos ruling. As in the technology area in the last phase there have been very creative solutions, but it has all been a bit overwhelming. Designer drugs might become even more mind-blowing. The new dream is possibly to save the world and see the world as the truly global, connected place that it is. This will become very clear in the next few years, but I fear it might become visible through the suffering of victims - another Pisces word. Can we get it together and help others? There are good signs that we can. I hope so."

It is fascinating to see how this is shaping up since the day Neptune crossed from Aquarius to Pisces on April 4th this year. Let's just take one area - hospitals and healthcare. And three countries:

The UK: The NHS health system is in trouble. This from BBC News on the 4th April:"Andrew Lansley has acknowledged there are "genuine concerns" about the NHS shake-up in England - amid accusations the policy is in "chaos".The health secretary said ministers were "listening" and would now "pause" to allow further consultation."

The US: Apart from the fact that Obama, who is himself a Neptunian person, announced his intention to run again for President in 2012 on this day, the Health System is again in the news. This is one of Obama's main issues. Hopefully 2012 will be the right time for him after the initial chaos. A shut-down of Government was narrowly avoided just after April 4th. The problem was an inability to agree a budget, and healthcare is one of the areas being discussed. The Republican view is expressed on the BBC news site as follows: "Unless we act soon, government spending on health and retirement programmes will crowd out spending on everything else, including national security. It will literally take every cent of every federal tax dollar just to pay for these programmes." Clearly Obama's dream is in trouble.

The Netherlands: On April 5th, the First Chamber (Senate) voted against the house on the introduction of an electronic dossier for healthcare. So here too it's back to the drawing board on a large healthcare initiative.

So chaos is definitely ruling since this date in healthcare. It is becoming obvious that we need other ways of helping people both nationally and globally since the major world disasters recently, especially in Japan. I hope we can get a new dream for Neptune in Pisces. The chance is there for global compassion - but can we do it? It's not only about money!

Astrological Painting Workshop

Being part of the CRAVE network, (women entrepreneurs in Amsterdam), gives the opportunity to get together with fun women and create something new. Daniella Rubinovitz and I (Faye) have done just that and we are running a workshop on March 24th at Daniella's Atelier in the Molenpad in Amsterdam.
In this painting workshop, the theme is discovering how our inner world and outer world come into contact with each other. Through fun and creative exploration, we can discover our own unique being through art.

I will use astrology to help us make the connection with the astrological symbolism in our personal horoscopes. (No astrological knowledge needed).

Daniella will lead the painting exercises on paper. Here we will draw and paint with both hands, stimulating especially the right side of our brain. We will then uncover what lies at the core of our inner and outer world! All exercises are great for beginners and experienced artists. The focus of these exercises is on creative fun in this non-performance environment.

Dr. Brian Cox vs. Astrologers

"Astrology is Total Bollocks"
This week, Dr. Brian Cox delivered the Huw Wheldon Memorial lecture on 'Science: a Challenge to TV orthodoxy.' Part 2 Part 3. And that's what he said - having yet another dig at astrology and astrologers or astrologists as he incorrectly calls us.

Now I like a good challenge and I don't have a problem with people who are sceptical about astrology - some of my best friends are, so to speak!
And Brian is welcome to an opinion - it raises discussion and that's all good. But I wonder why he keeps singling us out. Doth he protest too much?

I think he is a very good and clear speaker and he does a lot to get science back into the picture. His Wonders of the Solar System was fantastic. All the astrologers I know loved it and they love science. We see no clash between the two disciplines.

But there has been much outcry from astrologers and also from the Global Warming camp. And I think justifiably. Not because he has an opinion but because of where and how he does it. And he is NOT scientific and sometimes he is just plain wrong.

Let's take a look at what he said:
Evidence is more important than opinion - agreed and agreed that many astrologers don't have this.
He shows a clip from Feynman - one of his 'greatest scientists' who says there are 3 stages to science.
1- guess, 2- compute consequences, 3 experiment and if that disagrees then the theory is wrong.
No issues there. But Feynman also says it doesn't matter who says it - it's either right or wrong. The number of people who believe it also doesn't matter. For Cox that's fine except if an astrologer says it apparently. Or if enough scientists say it - that's means there's a consensus arrived at by peer review so that's more truthful.

Hmm peer pressure - I thought as a Pisces :) he might be a bit more creative than that. And with that spark of Aries a bit braver. (Go on Brian - give us your birth time so we can really have a go at you!) Peer pressure resulted in a simple cure for ulcers being denied to sufferers by the scientific community for years. And there are numerous examples of this - more like peer bludgeoning when it comes to some scientists.

There was an interesting statement he refers to in Wonders. Apparently when we get it right - Jupiter does have some kind of influence as we astrologers have always said (although I think not in the way most scientists try to imagine that) - we are still wrong. Lucky guess? Wonder what he thinks about the Moon containing water and silver? Astrologers have had that association for pretty well ever. Another lucky guess?

But of course we are so trivial that it is inconsequential. Apart from the fact that astrologers ( or New Agers as he refers to us) are "undermining the very fabric of our civilisation." Wow shouldn't we do something about that? That doesn't sound too trivial! What power we have - no wonder scientists want to get rid of us.

Some more comments from the learned doctor. Astrology is essentially a faith system - now sorry Brian but this IS total bollocks. You really don't know anything about the body of knowledge - still stuck in the ideas of the wonderful ( but misguidedly outdated views on astrology) Carl Sagan.

Cox raises the issue of the complaint the astrologers raised with the BBC about the episode of Wonders. It stated 'Astrology must be presented in a balanced way - according to BBC guidelines.' He settles this quickly by saying, "This is incorrect fortunately".

Has he read the BBC guidelines? Astrologers have done a lot to get these altered and the new ones actually do say this - not astrology as such but any subject. So he is just plain wrong here. "Impartiality is at the core of BBC committment to its audience." Go figure that one.

And then there is a bit of schizophrenia - I guess Pisces does swim both ways:) - some statements:
"The right to express an opinion is the lifeblood of democracy. If you know little about a subject how are you to make up your mind? How can your audience truly understand and appreciate something if you skip over necessary information in the misguided cause of simplification. One needs facts and accuracy.
Apparently not if you are Doctor with an impressive scientific record going out on a major television channel seen by millions You can then truly conclude that astrology is total bollocks without any scientific facts. That helps your viewers make up their minds. Thanks for that.

Let's face it - it does matter who says what and being a public science guru carries weight and responsibility. I expected and hoped for more from young, dashing, modern, hip scientists.

I may sound angry but I'm not - it's sadness that I feel. Astrology can offer a lot and it can and is being tested in a scientific fashion - it's just not the way many scientists believe in - that's scientism - and often it involves looking for a physical cause. Astrology must be experimented with qualitatively.

What a pity really good scientists rule out working with people with unorthodox views. Thank God for people like Dr Rupert Sheldrake who is taking on the scientific community at their own game. At least he has some gravitas. But we are back in universities so there is some hope.

And as a last comment - if you want a fight Dr Cox - let's play fair! Give us a right of reply...

The sky was ours long before it was ever yours! And I would like to see you prove the awe that you and most people feel when you look at a sky like this...

Pluto still the biggest kid on the block

Thank goodness. In Pluto's time of the year, Scorpio - when else - science has proved that he is still the biggest known body in the Kuiper Belt. Part of his reclassification to a Dwarf-planet in 2006 was due to the fact that there were many other objects out there and he was possibly smaller than the then recently discovered Eris. But now as Eris entered an area where she could be measured - Hurray! It could be proved that Pluto is still bigger.

In 2006 there was much consternation about Pluto no longer being a planet. Many T-shirts later astronomers are still arguing about the classification.

But many were really happy to have yet another thing that they thought proved astrology wrong.

Don't be fooled - Pluto is still having the same effects he always had. The astrology of Pluto hasn't changed. As we get more used to him at a consciousness level we can tend to make the most of him. Many are now using Plutonic energy in a positive way. Power with responsibilty, transforming in a positive way, unlike when he was first discovered in 1930. Psychology has moved on since its initial fumblings. But he's still a force to be reckoned with Dwarf or not.

Was it a Miracle?

That was the question asked this morning on the BBC's discussion program as I was having my coffee. There was the usual split of course between "it was God" and "of course it wasn't - it was just technical ability."

There was some lip-service given to the idea of faith but the split between science and religion still rages strongly - no surprise there.

However everyone did agree that it was a good news story that we could use more of.

Having an astrological background, I tend to look at things differently. Astrologers are often accused of looking at charts after the event - "what's the use of that?" they say - "if you'd known the mine was going to collapse then that would have been more useful." Apart from the fact that we would have to look at every chart for every moment for every small town, prediction for me doesn't work that way. It has to do with consciousness. We react to everything from what we know and believe. So unless we know what everyone believes and knows, it would be impossible for me to predict the mine collapse - although other astrologers might not agree.

The strength of astrology can be to look at an event and make some sense of it. What can we learn from the Chile mine disaster that captured the attention of the entire world? This fact alone makes it worthy of study. Time, to me, has a sort of consciousness - "there is a time for every purpose" kind of idea. Astrology would agree with that. So here's what I take from Chile using only two planets.

One is Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto is the God of the underworld who obviously has a connection to mines. What is on his mind in Capricorn is structures, building, hard work and epecially responsibilty. Planning and meeting deadlines and meeting agreements. What we saw here was all of this. The leader of the miners had qualities that any leader would be proud of. He used discipline in the beginning, he took responsibility, he set up a structure and he didn't blame everyone else and be greedy and look after himself. He was last out of the mine and saw that as an honour. Rules helped keep the miners in good shape. The bankers could learn a lot from Luis Urzua.

The leader of the country, Sebastian Pinera (shown here with Florencio Avelos - photo guardian.co.uk) also took his responsibilities seriously. He didn't miss the opportunity to be in the limelight of course, but I think he genuinely means it when he says (and this is maybe one of the lessons) "no miner will go down an unsafe mine again". I hope he means it as the world is watching and he will be held to account if he breaks that promise. The world is also now watching China because of this event. Consciousness as to what is happening to miners has been raised. What was nice about this story is there wasn't an outburst of "Who can we blame?" The question was asked but not in that way - all the teams got on with the matter at hand in a slow, responsible and careful way. They asked for, and got, expertise from other countries and the result is clear for all to see.

One of the other players sidling up to Pluto at the moment is the dwarf planet Ceres. In the mythology she is Pluto's mother-in law (apart from being his sister). She has a completely different agenda from Pluto and fights him all the way. One of her missions is, I think, to take on the ravaging of the earth. Most of the things from under the ground are used to gain power. Think of gold, uranium, coal and of course oil. Many have been killed in pursuit of these things and the earth has the scars to prove it. Ceres, in the myth, can make weather happen. She can cause natural disasters to make a point. I don't know that she minds mining as such but I think she is saying that it has gone way too far now. She is taking Pluto on. She is saying "if you carry on exploiting the earth and the people I will act". The lesson here again I think is how responsibly we use power. There needs to be a compromise as there was in the myth. Ceres' compromise was to create summer when her daughter was above ground and everything flourished, and she created winter when her daughter was under the ground with Pluto. Is mining really necessary all year round and for all these products? Is everyone benefiiting from them and is the earth being looked after? Are we giving anything back? Together with Pluto in Capricorn, responsibility for the earth and from any leaders is the key here.

And what about the question? Was it a miracle? It depends what that means but what could be contemplated here is that it was not God and not science but both. This event shows that they work together. Many experiments have shown that prayer does have an effect. The mining community certainly have faith and that cannot fail to have had an influence. But that doesn't mean that science didn't play a role. How wonderful was the scientific knowledge in this project? This is what we can learn too science and faith can cooperate. Maybe this is one reason why this event captured the imagination of the world.

And while I'm on belief... Why does everyone think that the miners will have trouble with all sorts of things later? The world is almost insisting that they will suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or other huge problems. Why can't the focus be on letting them be just fine? Research has proved that our thoughts have a huge effect! I wish them a normal happy life!

The Star of David - and of Ed

And while I am talking about Ed and David Miliband I want to add what I am currently learning about. I just attended a great Visual Astrology Conference in Santa Fe featuring the wonderful Bernadette Brady, whose mission it is to bring the stars back to astrology. She calls us planetologists as we only use planets. She was ably aided and abetted by Darrelyn Gunzberg and Darby Costello at this particular event.

I have always loved the stars as well as the planets and one technique I want to add to my work is something called Parans. In particular I am starting with parans to the Sun which I think has a lot to do with the calling of a person (not to mention a company and a country).

Parans are a bit of a nightmare technically but basically what we look for are stars and planets that 'do things' together at four places. Rising or setting - ie on the horizon, or directly above or below you (a bit simplified this but you'll get the idea.) Suffice it to say that stars, like planets, are all imbued with particular meanings.

So I will just mention one for Ed. When the Sun was setting on the day he was born, Arcturus was also setting. The short explanation of this given by Brady is " A pathfinder, to break new ground". He will have to do this. I think a star tied to his Sun, means his vocation and work will have to encompass Acturus. The longer explanation of Arcturus from Brady I find very fitting and hopeful - a star of "guarding, learning, teaching and leading. Protecting people as they embrace a new lifestyle. One who has the vision or the spirit to take the first step." ( Photo Uk Independent)

Even more interesting is to look at the star of David which is combined with the Sun and that is Procyon, a star in Canis Minor - the small dog! Procyon was directly under the Sun when the Sun was at its zenith.
The short explantion - "exceptionally talented but needing to diversify this talent" is interesting but the longer one is even more fascinating: "A quick rise but with no real substance, like fireworks - wonderful to watch but quickly fades." ( Photo BBC)

I am definitely going to study these parans in more depth. They seem to offer deeper insight being the backdrop of the heavens that we are born into. Perhaps being fixed we are stuck with them whereas we can negotiate a bit more with those wanderers - the planets.

Brothers fight settled - surprise for the UK Labour Party?

After all the waiting I have talked about in the past - for a cabinet in Holland, a government in other countries, the economy to do something... we at least have an answer as to which of the brothers Miliband will rule the UK Labour party. David and Ed have been at it for sometime along with other contenders. But in what was a nailbiting finish, the thought-to-be-less-popular Ed won the day. At least I can now get clear who is who as I have always mixed them up.

Ed is the little brother, so it must have been a blow to big brother David, although he put on a good front. (Photo from BBC site).

Looking astrologically, it is interesting to see the difference. I haven't yet found birth times for them but their birth dates are common knowledge.

David is a Cancer, 15th July 1965, with a touch of Saturn ( he is ambitious and wants to have authority) and Neptune (creative and has a dream just as Obama does). Cancerians like to be part of something, they like to belong and are very patriotic so I think his embracing of Ed is genuine. He will be proud of the Miliband name even though it must have been a huge disappointment for his ambitions.

Ed on the other hand is a bit of a dark horse. A Capricorn, 24th December, 1969, so also ambitious and authoritative (fitting with Capricornian UK as does Nick Clegg!) However with an element of Pluto he has more passion, more drive to have influence and power and more willpower than his big brother.
There is a part of him that fits the 'Red Ed' label. Uranus, the rebel is strong in his chart, wanting fairness, change and a bit of a surprise. He has started well here. But Capricorns are traditional and can be old school although he has it is him to create something new, exciting and practical.
He began his speech today by telling delegates: "I am ready to lead" and saying a new generation was in charge of Labour with "different attitudes, different ideas, different ways of doing politics". He's right.

Pluto is in the sign of Capricorn for the next few years, transforming all forms of government and traditional structures. Ed is a man for the times. He will know about responsibility at the top. He will be prepared to go along with the tight measures needed. What will be interesting, is to see how he negotiates his impatience for change. Can he use the element of surprise and innovation to his advantage? Are the Labour Party ready for him?

David as a Cancerian should maybe spend some time with his family or be given a 'home-country-family' portfolio. Astrologically speaking I think the Labour Party have the right brother.

I've been following Lynne McTaggart's blog for a while and appreciate the issues she brings to light. Every now and then though she mentions something and I think - hmmm yes I should do something about that.
Her post "50 ways to leave crude oil" gives a list of things that use petroleum. I totally agree with Lynne that the oil spill problem cannot be entirely laid at BP's door. We need to take personal responsibity - we create the market. We need to grow up and stop blaming others and do something positive. So how many things on the list are around in your company?

With Saturn now in the sign of Libra we need to share responsibilty.
